Record number of arrivals of refugees in Slovenia
More than 12,600 refugees arrived in Slovenia within 24 hours, today announced the Slovenian police, a number that is a record surpassing even the crowd that was recorded in Hungary, at the peak of the crisis in September.
From Saturday until today in the morning, 34 131 people have arrived in this small country of two million inhabitants, while more than 10,000 are waiting in Slovenian soil to continue their way to Austria and Germany.
Simultaneously 2000-3000 waiting on the border with Croatia to cross the territory of Slovenia, at the border crossing Rigkontse / Charmitsa, according to the Slovenian police, as reported the Athens agency.
Slovenia, which will visit today the European Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos, became the main gateway for refugees to the Schengen zone in central Europe, from Hungary when sealed its borders with Serbia and Croatia.
Ljubljana has asked the European Union help to manage the flow of refugee from Croatia. The interior minister of Slovenia Vesna Gkiorkos Znintar said the government has asked other countries of the European Union police reinforcements.
