Putin rules out ground operation in Syria

The military operation of Russia in Syria had been prearranged and made reconnaissance flights before starting the blows against the jihadist Islamic state, said Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview with the television station Rossiya-1.

"Experts of the general staff, in coordination with Syrian partners and other countries in the region have created, as you know, an information center in Baghdad as a result of the exchange of information, collected additional data. So what happens in the air and the land is not a spontaneous action but perform predefined projects, "he said.

"Constantly were making air and space reconnaissance, we compared the data obtained from various sources and experts of the general staff," he added.

President Putin ruled out any participation of Russian armed forces in ground operations in Syria. "This is not discussing it. Whatever happens is not going to do it and our Syrian friends know, "he said in reply to a question. He added that Russia does not want to engage in an interdenominational war in Syria between Shiites and Sunnis.

The Russian president also revealed that Moscow had been informed about the plans of their Western partners, the US and many others, as well as countries in the Middle East. "Some say that we did but too late I want to draw your attention to the fact that nobody ever warns us that it plans such businesses," he said.

Putin added that Russia has informed its partners because they wanted to show that is open to collaborations.

As noted, his country has no intention to reconstitute the empire and only purpose is to protect the independence and national sovereignty. "We have absolutely no desire to recreate the empire, to revive the Soviet Union, but we must protect the independence and our sovereignty," he concluded.
