The organization Islamic State engages in Syria in archaeological looting in "industrial" scale, warned today the Director General of Unesco Irina Bokova stressed the need to combat the smuggling of art objects through which sponsored Islamic extremism.
Satellite images and the presence of too many antiquities in illegal markets testify "looting on an industrial scale" through "thousands of illegal archaeological excavations," Bokova pointed out during a press conference in Sofia on this issue.
