Around 2,400 Russians fighting with militants of the organization Islamic State, reportedly said today (18/09) the First Deputy Director of the Federal Security of Russia Sergei Smirnov.
According to the news agency RIA, the Smirnov also said total there are about 3,000 people from Central Asia who fight together with groups of the Islamic State.
Speaking to reporters, Smirnov said that the problem of immigrants fleeing from the Middle East to Europe will probably grow, becoming potentially "major threat" to Russia.
"The statement that the support of Moscow negatively affect the situation in Syria -and particularly the flow of refugee situation is not true. This is due to the expansion of the Islamic state in the region," he said.
Implying the United States of America, Smirnov said that there are "a number of countries trying to avoid" international cooperation to combat terrorism.
"There's a collaboration, but not at the right level - especially with the United States," he said, as reported the Athens agents
