The Japanese Uniqlo clothing chain intends to propose to some of its employees in Japan to work only four days a week so that they can devote the remaining three in young children or elderly parents, reported today a spokesman of the group.
"Our goal is to attract staff and keep it," he said speaking to AFP.
The trade sector in Japan is experiencing serious difficulties in finding employees and the demand is very great. Many shops post in their windows with ads which ask staff.
According to the Ministry of Labour, in June (the month for which data are available) the proportion of labor supply and demand was 119 to 100, something unprecedented for two decades. In recent months the unemployment rate in Japan stands at 3.4%
