USA: More stringent measures for visitors are not required to issue visa
The United States announced yesterday tightened security measures for visitors coming from one of the 38 countries for which no visa or visa (VWP). In the list of countries belong European countries from which hundreds of citizens fleeing to fight with Islamist groups in Syria and Iraq.
These changes require the use of passports with electronic chips containing biometric information while also expanding the presence of specially trained security officers in civilian airplanes that operate international flights, said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Some members of Congress have called on the government to introduce greater restrictions on the VWP, which allows citizens of specific countries to enter the US without a visa for 90 days. Senator Diane Fainstin, the oldest hierarchically Democratic senator in the information committee of the Senate, has criticized the program, calling it the "Achilles heel" of US efforts to prevent attacks inside the country.
The new measures, announced by Homeland Security Je Johnson, include an obligation on Member VWP list using an international database of lost and stolen passports, the ministry said.
