According to BILD newspaper Saturday, as early as November 2016 the German Government was aware of the risk of sending trapped with explosive packages from Greece. The associated article cites intelligence report on "Security Situation in Germany." The report, based on information from the Federal Office of Crime Squad (BKA), warns against sending letters with explosives by "groups of the extreme left or leftist terrorists in Greece." As further noted, "The prevailing view in Greece for German responsibility in regard to the difficult economic situation" could, according to the intelligence report, to be used "as an excuse for violence."
The secret services warned of the danger of "expansion of foreign extremist organizations action radius in Germany, for example by sending" trapped packages.
