The French armed forces will continue their struggle against the Islamic state jihadists in Syria, but Rashas' liberation needs to lead to an inclusive political system to restore stability, French President Emmanuel Macron said today.
"The battle against the Islamic State did not end with the release of Raka, and France would continue its military effort as needed," the presidential office said in a statement.
"The challenges of stability and reconstruction will not be less than those of the military campaign," he underlined.
The Arab-Kurdish coalition against the Islamic State in Syria today welcomed earlier the "historic victory" against the jihadist organization that was expelled from its bastion, Raka.
France has supplied weapons to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has special forces operating in the region, and is one of the key countries to bomb the jihadists as part of the US coalition-led Western coalition operations .
