The United States has made tremendous progress in trade with Mexico, US President Donald Trub said today after meeting with Mexico's Enrique Penya Nieto, but he hastened to reiterate that his southern neighbor is due to fund the project Building the wall at the borders of the two countries.
"We are negotiating NAFTA and some other issues with Mexico and we will see how they will evolve, but I think we have made very good progress," the US president said today after the meeting of the two leaders on the sidelines of the Summit G20 in Hamburg.
Pennie Nieton, whom Trab called his "friend," said for his part that the meeting with the head of the US state would "help us pursue a very close dialogue" focusing on the NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement).
Donald Trub has repeatedly assured that he will build a 3.142-kilometer-long wall at the US-Mexico border to prevent irregular immigration and drug trafficking.
However, the US Congress is currently refusing to finance the construction of this costly project, and has just released money to boost mainly border surveillance through technological means.
The real battle for funding will be rolled out during the next 2018 budget debate, which will begin on 1 October.
