Polish lawyers denounce the politicization "of justice by the ruling party

Polish lawyers met today at an extraordinary conference to denounce the politicization of the judiciary by the conservative government of the Party of Justice and Justice (PiS).

The majority of participants left the Katowice Conference Hall when Deputy Justice Minister Marcin Warsol took the floor to present the reform his ministry is seeking to implement.

According to this reform, members of the National Legal Council will be appointed by the parliament, which, according to the legal opinion, constitutes a violation of the independence of the judiciary and of the separation of powers.

The delegates assimilated the deputy secretary by shouting "Constitution" during the reading of a letter from Polish President Andrei Duntuna.

The Congress met for the first time since the fall of the communist regime.

According to judges, the reform of the judicial system promoted by the ruling party and discussed in the week that comes to the Polish parliament shows that executive and legislative power seek to control the judiciary.

According to Judge of the European Court of Justice, Marek Safzan, "Polish society has been able to see through this Congress that the Polish judges are ready to defend the rule of law, which is a prerequisite for respecting human rights."
