Pope Francis apologized for the role of the church in the genocide in Rwanda

Pope Francis asked forgiveness today for the "sins and errors of the Church" during the genocide in Rwanda in 1994, noting that he hopes the apology can help to heal the wounds in the African country.

But the government of Rwanda left to make it clear that does not consider the apology is sufficient, noting that the Roman Catholic Church in this country participated in protecting genocide perpetrators.

During a meeting with the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagkami, the primate of the Roman Catholic Church has acknowledged that priests and faithful took part in the massacre of 800,000 members of the Tutsi minority and moderate Hutus.

The pope 'again asked the god for forgiveness for the sins and failings of the Church and its, including clergy members, men and women of faith who succumbed to hatred and violence, "said the Vatican statement.
