Thousands of ducks killed today in southwest France in an effort to prevent the spread of the H5N8 strain of the avian influenza virus. While in the Czech Republic today killed thousands of chickens and ducks around the iou-- tracking outbreaks of two small farms in the southeast of choras-- multiply as the information on the spread of the disease across Europe.
In France, only on a farm in the village Latrig, 8,000 ducks were killed.
In France, which has the largest population of poultry in the EU, there have been 95 cases of the virus this season.
Most killings take place in and around the Gera region of southwestern France, where bred in large numbers of ducks and geese for the production of foie gras.
Within the next week is expected to kill 800,000 ducks from a population of nearly 18 million.
In the Czech Republic, the State Veterinary Authority announced that measures relating to farms located in perimeter 3 and 10 km around the houses where the virus was detected in the regions Ivancice and Moravski Krumlov.
I5N8 strain of the virus has recently been detected in neighboring Germany, Slovakia and other European countries. Austria has informed poultry farmers to keep their birds indoors sealed after outbreaks in neighboring Switzerland and Germany.
