At least 5 killed by the devastating tornadoes that swept the American South

At least five people were killed and dozens others injured after tornadoes swept through Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi during the night and this morning, meteorologists announced and passed American media.

Three people were killed overnight in Rosalie, a small community in northeast Alabama, where at least one tornado was recorded by a "hunter" of extreme weather events, said the National Weather Service on its website.

"Tornadoes during the night can become a particularly dangerous phenomenon because it is difficult to see them move at high speeds, while even many people sleep," said the National Weather Service in a statement.

A couple was killed in Polk County, Tennessee, wrote the newspaper Chattanooga Times Free Press, citing a member of local law enforcement. Dozens of people were injured in the state, including at least 20 in County Makmin, reported local television network WATE.

In Inter Milan in Alabama, four children and several adults were injured when a tornado leveled a kindergarten according to the National Weather Service. The victims sought shelter inside the kindergarten, who at that time was not working.

The National Weather Service noted that received more than 20 reports of tornadoes as the system, which came hail and heavy rain, crossed the eastern Texas, northern Mississippi and Alabama to southeast Tennessee on Tuesday and early this morning.

Homes and businesses were destroyed by extreme weather events, serious damage was caused to the electricity network, while trees were uprooted, according to the meteorological service and the US media.
