Two Turkish military attachés posted in Greece fled to Italy after withdrawn after the failed coup attempt of July 15 and the Turkish authorities will come into contact with Italian officials for their return, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said today.
The Cavusoglu said even the private NTV television network that two Turkish civil servants fled to Bangladesh in New York.
The Turkish Foreign Minister stated that the deadline which was given to Turkish diplomats to return to Ankara as part of investigations into the failed military coup today, expired and that legal action will be taken against those who did not return.
He said that Ankara is still waiting for a response from US officials on with a Turkish officer seconded to NATO who sought asylum in the US after having been withdrawn by the government.
The Cavusoglu also said he solved the problems that were caused by the attempted coup the air base at Incirlik in southern Turkey, used by the US in the coalition against the Islamic State. From now on Turkey will actively participate in coalition operations with warplanes, he said.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry also said that Turkey might seek other options outside NATO for cooperation in the defense industry, and if the first choice is always to work with its allies in NATO.
He added that his country called Russia in joint operations against the organization Islamic State in Syria.
"We will discuss all the details. Historically we called Russia in operations against Dae," he said using the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State.
The Cavusoglu however insisted that there can be no political transition in Syria with President Bashar al-Assad.
