Erdogan accuses West of supporting "terrorism" and the coup


To script the failed coup in Turkey "written from abroad", today denounced the country's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a speech in Ankara during which he accused Western countries of supporting the coup.

"This coup is not only an event that was designed from the inside. The perpetrators acted in the country based on a script that was written from abroad, "said the head of the Turkish state, accusing preacher Fethullah Gulen, who lives in exile in the US, that he was the mastermind of the coup.

Moreover, the Turkish president accused the West today that "support terrorism" and the coup, the most severe verbal attack unleashed after attempting to topple the government and himself on 15 July.

"Unfortunately, the West supports terrorism and takes the side of the coup," said Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his speech, responding in this way to the US criticism and European countries on the scope of the purges that followed the failed coup attempt.

"Those who imagined they were our friends side with the coup and terrorists" reiterated during an economic forum held in the presidential palace.

Moreover, the president of Turkey claimed that Gulen supporters will attempt to put back under their control the armed forces if there were the radical restructuring. Also expressed doubts about the kind of cooperation strategy that Turkey has with the United States if Washington refuses to extradite preacher.

Turkey will further proceed in restructuring the intelligence services, he added.

During his speech in Ankara, which was broadcast online, the Turkish president also accused the European Union that breached the promises he had given on the basis of the refugee crisis agreement concluded with Turkey, despite the successes of Ankara to curb irregular migrant flows.
