Britain will not renounce its leading role in Europe, said today the new country's Foreign Minister Boris Johnson who comes in first council of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
"In no case will not give up our leadership in Europe," reassured Johnson in his statements to reporters, noting that withdrawal from the EU "does not mean withdrawal from Europe."
Former mayor of London and a champion of the UK leaving the EU currently doing his first steps in the European diplomatic scene in response to the monthly meeting of the 28 EU foreign ministers.
"The message we will convey to our friends on board is that we need to implement the will of the people and to withdraw from the European Union, but that does not mean in any way that leaves Europe," Johnson said.
The head of the EU diplomacy Federica Mogkerini insisted already met last night "for a first contact" informal, away from the media.
