CIA: Thousands of fighters of the Islamic State worldwide
The director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) John Brennan warned today that tens of thousands of fighters of the Islamic State have been developed around the world, most of those who had al-Qaida at its height.
Speaking before the Senate Intelligence Committee, the US official also said that the CIA is concerned about the emergence of Libya as a base of operations of the Islamic State militants. In the country this organization has developed 5000-8000 warriors, but also fighters in Iraq and Syria fell to 18000-22000 to 19000-25000 who was in the past.
"I worry about the election of Libya as another one area that could be used as a basis for the Islamic State, from; which will commit attacks in European countries; it (the possibility) is very worrying, "stressed the head of the secret service.
He also admitted that the Islamic State has not lost its' ability to commit terrorist attacks "throughout the world, despite the business of international coalition against the jihadists.
"Unfortunately, despite the progress that was recorded against the Islamic State on the battlefield and on the financing sources, our efforts have not dulled its ability to commit terrorist attacks" in the world, noted John Brennan.
"As the pressure will rise" against extremist organization in the field in Iraq and Syria, "we believe that it will escalate its campaign world" in order to remain the most powerful terrorist organization, said the head of the secret service.
"We believe that the Islamic State educates" potential perpetrators of attacks "and will try to use them to launch new attacks," he said.
