Britain: Former MEP jailed for fraud
Peter Skinner, who has in the recent past represented Britain in the European Parliament, was sentenced on Friday to four years in prison for fraud that allowed him to abuse an amount of more than 100,000 pounds (128,000 euros), which was intended for advisory costs.
Skinner, Labour MEP from 1994 to 2014, was found guilty of fraud and forgery of the court of the London Borough of Southwark, London.
He had abused European funds earmarked for EC staff pay, mainly to pay her diet former wife and expenses of the honeymoon with the new partner. Prosecutor Jonathan Davis estimated that the loss to the EC amounts to £ 132.434 and Judge Maura Makgkaoun agreed that the amount "exceeds £ 100.000».
