The United States is closely monitoring the information according to which Iran proceeded in ballistic missile testing and, if confirmed, would seek an "appropriate response" by the UN Security Council, said a US official.

This official, who requested anonymity, said on ballistic missile testing reports will not be considered a violation of the international agreement reached with Iran but there are "strong indications" that it would be incompatible with a resolution of the UN Security Council .

"If confirmed, we intend to put the matter to the UN Security Council. It will also encourage a serious examination of the matter and will press for a proportionate response," he said. "This development underlines why we continue to work closely with our partners around the world to slow down and to underestimate Iran's missile program," he added.

From Paris, a French diplomatic source also pointed out that the missile tests capable of carrying nuclear warheads, would constitute a violation of UN Security Council decisions. "We check this information. The program of ballistic missiles Iran is a source of concern. The rocket design capable of delivering nuclear weapons would constitute a violation of Security Council Resolution 2231 which calls on Iran to refrain from any activity in this area," he said.

The French diplomat added that it is still too early to discuss what measures could be taken if confirmed information.
