Obama-Castro: Please welcome our differences and work for the benefit of both peoples
Cuba and the United States will continue to have "differences" between them, especially as Washington continues bilingualism as regards the issue of human rights, said today the Cuban President Raul Castro, welcoming ton US counterpart Barack Obama.
The latter welcomed the "new day" dawns that the relations between the two countries and the "spirit of openness" shown by Castro.
The future of Cuba "will be decided by the Cubans," he said Obama, stressing that Washington will continue to raise the issues of human rights and individual freedoms.
"The two countries have deep differences that will never disappear," he said from the side of the castle during the joint press conference given by the two leaders after the contacts had in Havana. Obama acknowledged that there are differences in the way they deal with democracy and human rights and that they had a "frank and open-minded" discussion on this topic.
