Doubts the British Government for the withdrawal of Russian forces from Syria
H British Government is not convinced that the announcement from Russia of the withdrawal of its forces from Syria is sincere, he said Foreign Minister Philip Hammond told reporters in Baghdad.
"If that is indeed a sincere aposyrsi- we do not know it," noted the head of British diplomacy regarding the announcement by Moscow to withdraw part of its forces from Syria, without completing the sentence.
"We have seen in the past, in Ukraine, Russia spoke of a withdrawal and then ended up being simply a rotation of forces," he said.
If confirmed the withdrawal "will be interesting to see how long the (Syrian) government forces can maintain momentum with their own initiatives," he added.
"We do not believe that there could be lasting peace in Syria with Assad in power," he said, commenting on the peace talks underway in Geneva between the Syrian government and the opposition.
