Responsibilities in Iran blames the Arab League for tension in relations with Saudi Arabia
The Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia today accused Iran of interfering in Arab affairs and undermines regional security, the extraordinary session of the Arab League in Cairo, the main topic at the rising tension between Riyadh and Tehran.
The crisis between the Sunni kingdom and Shiite Iran began when Saudi Arabia executed Shiite priest Nimr al-Nimr, on January 2, an event that sparked strong reactions of Shiites across the Middle East and attacks on Saudi Arabian diplomatic missions in Iran .
"These attacks clearly reflect the approach of the Iranian policy in our region (...) with the intervention (Tehran) in the affairs of states (of the region) and incitement to religious conflict," said Adel al Tzoumpeir.
The "provocative actions" in Iran and condemned the head of the Arab League, Nabil al-Arabi, at the beginning of the meeting in the Egyptian capital.
Al Arabi called on the Association of Foreign Ministers to "adopt a common, clear and strong position" and call Iran "to stop any form of interference in the affairs of the Arab nation."
For his part, Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif, accused Saudi Arabia of using the diplomatic crisis with Tehran to "adversely affect" the negotiations for peace in Syria.
"We will not allow the Saudi actions have negative impact on resolution of the Syrian crisis," he said in a statement the head of Iranian diplomacy, referring to the peace negotiations in Vienna.
