France: Shootings outside mosque
A military that was assigned in front of the Grand Mosque of Valence, in southeastern France, this afternoon opened fire on a man who tried to fall on it with the car driven announced the local authorities.
The military wounded in the arm and leg on the driver, who was taken to hospital. A bullet also injured a passerby in the calf, he explained by the prefecture of Drôme.
The military was hit by car and injured his knee and shin, while his life is not in danger.
The driver, who deliberately steered his car to the military for reasons that remain unknown so far, acted alone, according to the prefecture.
The mayor of Valence Nicolas Ntaragkon told the news network iTELE how passerby who was injured is a 72 year old Muslim.
He added that the identity, motivation and psychological state of the perpetrator is not yet known.
"Four soldiers were in front of the mosque, a modest, quiet mosque, between two prayers at a time when many believers arrived," said Ntaragkon. "A car headed straight at them."
The driver tried twice to knock the soldiers, who shot him at the second attempt, "added the mayor.
