Giant oil rig move rudderless in the North Sea

Giant platform directed out of control to the oil rigs of Valhall and Ekofisk fields in the North Sea, the companies BP and ConocoPhillips, which have eliminated approximately 300 employees. The pumping operations have been interrupted.

The anchor ropes towing the platform, which is a length of 110 meters and width of 30 meters, broke because of bad weather yesterday evening within British territorial waters, and headed to Norway. Early morning was located 26 kilometers from the deposit Valhall, according to the Norwegian coordination and rescue center, reported top news agency NTB.

"The platform has changed course and is now moving directly to the Valhall. We hope that the course will change again and that we will manage to fasten", he told AFP Jan-Eric Gkirmo, representative of BP Norway, at 10.30 CET . Tug tried to stabilize the platform failed because the storm made it his mission very dangerous.

One hundred and fifty employees of the BP group were removed by helicopter to neighboring platforms, while 71 employees transferred to the platforms of the deposit Ekofisk. The ConocoPhillips company dismissed 145 workers from facilities that potentially threatened the deposit Ekofisk

The exploitation of the deposit Valhall started in 1982. The 35.95% owned by BP and 64.05% in the Norwegian subsidiary of the US Hess Corporation.

The average production would reach 30,000 barrels per day in 2015, while stocks amounted to 248.1 million barrels of oil and 6.95 billion m³ natural gas.
