O US President Barack Obama today declared a state of emergency in the state of Washington in order to mobilize those means that will help tackle the huge fires raging in the region.
"The (Obama) ordered assistance from federal authorities to strengthen efforts at the state and local level in regions affected by the fires," stated the White House in a press release.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Homeland Security Department asked to coordinate all businesses at the federal level to relieve the local populations affected. The National Interdepartmental Coordination Center (NICC) refers to a total of 13 fires raging unchecked in Washington, while four other fronts were controlled.
The emergency response authorities also extended the evacuation zone to two additional cities threatening flames in voreiokentriko part of the state of Washington while dozens fronts continue to destroy the northwestern part of the country.
Late last night the authorities ordered the approximately 1,000 villagers Tonasket to flee their homes as the fire spread to the area.
Further north, officials of the authorities dealing with emergencies extra early today issued evacuation orders for parts of Okanogkan, a larger town, warning residents to a post on the social networking site Facebook «not wait for a warning in their home."
At least 70 fires or multiple flaming fronts still raging this week in many states in the western US, mostly in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California and Montana, according to authorities.
With the fiery nightmare in full swing, firefighters from Australia and New Zealand are expected in the country to assist in extinguishing efforts.
In a press release the NICC announced today that "Australia and New Zealand are important partners of the American community firefighting forces for 50 years but have not been mobilized since 2008, when the intensity of the phenomena was similar to this year."
Earlier this week, the governors of Idaho and Oregon, as happened in the state of Washington, called the National Guard and military aircraft to take part in fire extinguishing efforts. It is the first time since 2008 that reservists of the US armed forces were ordered to develop to tackle fires.
This year the fires have claimed the lives of 13 firefighters.
