If the United States terminates the nuclear agreement with Iran or once again impose sanctions on Tehran, the result may be that Iran will develop nuclear weapons and increase the risk of a war near Europe, the German Foreign Minister said today.
US President Donald Trub has officially denied yesterday that Tehran complies with the 2015 agreement, although international inspectors say it complies. He warned that he could finally end the deal.
German Foreign Minister Zigmar Gabriel told Deutschlandfunk that Tramb sent a "tough and dangerous signal" while the US government is also facing the North Korean nuclear crisis.
"My great concern is that what is happening in Iran or Iran from the perspective of the US will not remain an Iranian issue but many others in the world will think of the possibility of acquiring those nuclear weapons as such agreements are destroyed, Gabriel.
"And then our children and grandchildren will grow up in a very dangerous world," he said.
He said that if the US were to terminate the agreement or sanctions again against Tehran, the Iranian hardliners who were against the negotiations with the West would take the upper hand.
"Then they can return to the development of nuclear weapons," Gabriel said, adding that Israel would not tolerate it and "then we will go back to where we were ten, twelve years ago, with the risk of a war being relatively close to Europe" .
He called on the United States not to jeopardize the security of their allies and their own people for internal policy reasons.
