Hollande: A candidate for EU membership "can not" bring back the death penalty
A country that wishes to join the EU "can not" bring back the death penalty as planned by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after the failed coup attempt at the weekend, said today from Lisbon French President Francois Hollande.
"A country which (...) wants a relationship with the EU" and conducts "accession negotiations", like Turkey, "can not bring back the death penalty in the law," Hollande said.
"What we want now is a measure that should be taken to trial and arrest those who committed the coup to comply with the law," continued the French President.
