Closed until further notice, the diplomatic missions of France in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir
The French diplomatic missions in the three main cities of Turkey were closed until further notice and canceled scheduled events for Bastille Day, celebrated on 14 July, for security reasons, the embassy in Ankara announced today.
The Consulate General of France in Istanbul was to hold a reception tonight for the national holiday, while the French missions in Ankara and Izmir have planned events for Thursday.
"For security reasons, the receptions of 14 July which were to be held in Ankara, Istanbul and void Izmir," he said in a statement the embassy, adding that he has informed the Turkish authorities of the decision and is in close contact with them.
"The French Embassy in Ankara and the Consulate General in Istanbul will be closed from 13:00 on Wednesday, July 13 and until further notice," he said. The decision also concerns the French diplomatic mission in Smyrna.
The general consulate in Istanbul mentioned earlier that there is information on "serious threat to the plans for the celebration of the national holiday of July 14 in Turkey."
