B.Ompama: Austerity important factor disappointments in Europe
Austerity is a "major factor justifying the frustrations and concerns in Europe, said today in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais US President Barack Obama.
The head of the US State highlights features:
"It is true that some European countries have adopted a different economic approach, which included austerity measures. I think this is one of the reasons that Europe recorded slower growth rates. "
There arise, as he points out, and "concerns that the consolidated economies and globalization does not bring economic benefits in an equitable manner."
In fact, according to the US President: "The growth recorded slow in many countries of the continent has resulted in too many Europeans, especially young people, have remained without work and feel disappointed."
In an interview in El Pais on the occasion of his visit to Spain, Barack Obama praises Spanish citizens affected by the economic crisis.
"Spain certainly has come a particularly difficult path in recent years. The banking crisis and the recession here caused a severe blow to many Spaniards, who lost their savings and their jobs. Thanks however to a combination of factors, including difficult structural reforms, budgetary consolidation measures, investments and mainly thanks to the adaptability of Spanish citizens, Spain has managed to change course. The economy is growing again, with growth rates among the strongest in Europe. There is new hope for the future. Of course, unemployment remains very high, especially among young people. Here in Spain, in Europe and throughout the world, I will continue to speak in favor of policies that invest in people, promote growth and create new jobs. "
Regarding the new data generated by the Brexit, populist voices that resonated across the continent and concerns about the economy if all these endanger the European project Barack Obama said:
"I believe that an integrated Europe is one of the biggest political and economic achievements of the modern era. We should never take it for granted. Yes, it is clear that the European integration project is tested like never before. This is no time for complacency. Migration and refugee flows in Europe have again garner interest in policies for the security of our borders and the ability of European countries to work together to meet a common challenge. "
US President even sent a message of unity:
"The development slowly along the continent left too many Europeans, especially young people, jobless and disillusioned. In all our countries, too many people feel that they are disadvantaged by globalization and automation. We saw many of these forces are shown in the case of the referendum on the Brexit. We ignore these forces with our responsibility. Governments, including European institutions, must show that we connect and respond to the daily needs of the citizens. "
Proposal for Barack Obama as he describes:
"More education must invest, skills and training that will help reduce inequalities and help people succeed in the global economy. And we must reject the "us" against "others" which some cynical politicians allege. We must remain true to the values that define our individuality, our societies are full of life and those who are the greatest source of power us- our commitment to democratic pluralism, inclusion and tolerance. "
