Meeting with Kerry King Salman
The American of the United States Foreign Minister John Kerry met today with the King of Saudi Arabia Salman and other senior Saudi officials, with whom he had talks focused on the war in Syria.
Kerry, who today began a three-day trip in which visited Saudi Arabia and then will travel to France, also was expected to discuss with the Saudi leadership for the crisis in Yemen and other regional security issues. The meetings take place on a military base near the Iraqi border.
After his talks with the Saudi monarch, Kerry spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nagef, the Saudi defense minister Mohammed bin Salman and the Saudi counterpart Adel al Tzoumpeir. He said their talks would revolved around Syria, before the journalists asked to leave.
The peace negotiations for Syria are scheduled to begin in Geneva next week. The major opposition organization-backed by Riyadh-has announced that it will take part in them.
The talks in Geneva, under the auspices of the United Nations, will take place two weeks after it came into force a ceasefire agreement. The agreement reduced the level of violence, although not completely cease hostilities; new battles were reported today in western Syria.
The agreement, however, which was accepted by both the government and most opposition organizations, is the first of its kind in the war which has claimed the lives of at least 260,000 people and has forced millions of Syrians to flee their homes.
Saturday tomorrow and the day after Sunday Kerry will be in Paris, where he will meet with his counterparts from France, Britain, Germany, Italy and other countries of the EU. We will discuss a wide range of regional and global problems, merely announced the US Secretary.
