NATO: The forces of Greece and Turkey will not operate in the territorial waters and the airspace of each other
NATO allies agreed late last night on a draft for businesses of NATO ships in the Aegean in order to assist Greece and Turkey to address the refugee trafficking networks in Europe. After talks in Brussels that lasted late into the night, the representatives of the allied countries reached a draft of how cooperation between NATO ships with the coastguards of Greece and Turkey, and the Frontex agency of the European Union, to rescue refugees at sea and return to Turkey.
"The Greek and Turkish forces of each other will not operate in the territorial waters and airspace," explained the statement issued after the talks, the secretary general of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.
The Stoltenberg said that NATO ships will be sailing in the territorial waters of both countries.
Unlike the European mission off the Italian coast, in which the rescued sea refugees transferred to European shores, NATO returns to Turkey refugees will still survive and within Greek territorial waters in a sealing effort of Greek and hence the European, sea border.
"In the case of rescue people from Turkey, they will be transported back to Turkey" is clarified in the statement of NATO Secretary General.
