Suicide bomber spreads death in Pakistan - 16 dead
At least 16 people were killed and dozens wounded in suicide bomber attack on a Shia procession in the province of Sindh in Pakistan during Ashura, one of the most important festivals of the Shiites.
No organization claimed responsibility of the attack, but a Sunni militant organization Laschkar e Tzchangkvi, had taken responsibility for the attack which took place Thursday and threatened for more attacks against Shiites.
The official local police Muhamed Saeed said that 16 people - among them two children - were killed in the bomb attack happened early evening in Tzakompampant, about 450 km north of the city Karachi.
"This attack kamikaze bomber," Saeed said in a telephone conversation with Reuters news agency.
Another police officer, Ali Niazi said that at least 24 people who were in the procession, were injured.
Security measures have been stepped up across the country during the two-day festival Ashura. The Shiites in Pakistan, representing 20% of the population, make public gatherings and marches in major cities in the country to celebrate the death of Hussein, grandson of Muhammad.
On Thursday, a suicide bomber detonated explosives which had zostei a Shiite mosque thereby killed at least ten people in the province Baloutsistan.
Among the victims of the attack were six children, while at least 20 more people were injured in the attack in the town Baagk, approximately 200 km. East of Quetta, the provincial capital.
