Direct and full involvement of the European Parliament - as the fifth element in the so-called "quartet of creditors" - the regular evaluation process in the implementation of the loan agreement between the Greek Republic and the European Stability Mechanism and the accompanying conditions policies giving effect the declaration of the Euro Summit on 12 July 2015, asking the prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, in his letter to the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz.
According to government sources, earlier today Mr. Tsipras had a telephone conversation with Mr. Schulz on the issue. The President of the European Parliament, according to the same sources, was positive for the content of the letter and stated that the Greek Government's request is a request by several political groups in the European Parliament.
The Prime Minister to the President of the European Parliament's request will be brought to the attention of the parliamentary groups immediately after the start of Parliament's work. The Prime Minister stressed in his letter that he considers "politically imperative, the only European institution with a direct popular mandate, to act as the ultimate guarantor of democratic accountability and compatibility of economic policy in Europe with the European political and social acquis".
